Overview

Moderate sedation didactics and hands on skills are paired with ACLS recertification to assist in the maintenance of moderate sedation privileges. Asynchronous didactics review patient selection, basic and advanced airway techniques, the provision of sedation and techniques for rescue from over sedation.

Target audience:

This course is intended for non-anesthesiologists and emergency medicine providers who are credentialed to provide moderate sedation at UMass Memorial Health.

If taking ACLS with this course you must have a valid BLS certification. 

ACLS Retrain and Moderate Sedation are required every two years. 

This course consists of:

  • eLearning ACLS Heart Code (prerequisite of the lab session)
  • eLearning Didactic  (prerequisite of the lab session)
  • 2 hour in-person simulation lab
  • Post test
  • ACLS eCard

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. - Demonstrate patient selection
  2. - Perform basic and advanced airway techniques
  3. - Describe the provision of moderate sedation
  4. - Assess patient for level of sedation, airway protection, and ventilation using capnography
  5. - Identify and rescue patients who require pharmacologic reversal and ventilation/oxygenation assistance

Registration

Registration:

  • ACLS Plus Moderate Sedation - $405
  • Moderate Sedation Only - $110

Registration Fee Includes:

  • e-learning material (which must be completed to attend your session)
  • 2- hour in-person simulation lab
  • Post Test
  • ACLS certification card ( for the learner to send to Medical Staff Services or your coordinator if you are a resident/fellow) 
  • Medical Staff Services will be notified by the CME Office after the completion of the post test that your certified for Moderate Sedation.

Confirmation:

Registrants will receive an email confirmation that includes selected session date, location, payment receipt, and course information.

eLearning: 

Emails for new ACLS eLearning assignments will be sent 2 weeks before the scheduled skills session. Learners who register within 2 weeks of the course will receive the email within 1-2 business days of registering.  If you can't find the emails after checking your junk mail from eLearning.heart.org within the timeframe contact [email protected].

For assistance with the ACLS online course materials, please contact the American Heart Association s customer service line at 1-888-242-8883, or email them at [email protected]. Their office is open from 8am-5pm Monday- Friday, and they are able to provide technical support for any problems related to the online course.

Refunds and Transfers:

Moderate Sedation Courses are refundable for those who haven't opened their ACLS online materials and who have contacted us to cancel 5 business days prior to your selected session date.  Transfers are permitted by contacting us 5 business days prior your selected session date.  Contact us at [email protected] or call 508-856-3041.  There will not be refunds or transfers for Late Arrives, No Shows, or uncompleted online material by the course time.
